Tool set of surficial geology, hazard, and hydrogeology symbols for marking up geologic maps, landslide and hazard maps, and groundwater maps, following the FGDC Digital Cartographic Standard for Geologic Map Symbolization (FGDC-STD-013-2006). This tool set covers 5 categories with 540 tools, available in a standard colors version (the inks of the standard) and a redline version. The 242 line tools — scarps, glacial limits, shorelines, landslide features, caldera margins, crater rims, and groundwater contours — are native Polyline markups with 171 custom line styles, so hachures, triangles, ticks, query marks, and arrows run along any path you draw. The 25 area symbols come as 50 tools: a Polygon markup and an Area measurement markup that reports the area, with the standard's patterns and tints. The 248 point symbols and labels are groups of native Bluebeam markups with editable values and labels. Every tool is named after its FGDC reference number, so placed markups list and count by name in the Markups List.

Examples of tools included:

  • Surficial landforms
    • Fluvial terrace scarps and sediment transport directions
    • Glacial features: ice-flow directions, glacial-lake spillways, meltwater channels, moraines, eskers, drumlins, kettles, hummocky topography, striations, scoured basins, and glacial limits
    • Periglacial features: pingos, patterned ground, ice-wedge polygons, solifluction lobes, felsenmeer, and thermokarst depressions
    • Beach ridges, marine-abrasion platforms, aggradational, erosional, and former shorelines, shoreline cliffs, spits, and bars
    • Dune crests, blowout rims, and dry lakebeds
  • Landslides and volcanic features
    • Landslide outlines, head and internal scarps, toes, flanks, tension cracks, levees, sag ponds, and displacement vectors
    • Active, dormant, and relict landslides and debris flows as areas
    • Volcanic crater rims, caldera margins, lava-flow contacts and fronts, fissures, lava tubes, pressure ridges, and spatter ramparts
    • Cones, vents, hornitos, geysers, thermal areas, volcanoes, and diatremes
  • Earthquake, uplift, and impact features
    • Earthquake epicenters by magnitude and focal-mechanism diagrams
    • Limits of subsidence, shock craters, sinkholes, and fissures with ejected sand
    • Metamorphic core complexes, collapse structures, salt domes, and diapirs
    • Terrestrial impact craters with and without raised rims, crater floors, central mounds, and palimpsest areas
  • Wells, springs, and water sites
    • Water wells for domestic, stock, irrigation, industrial, and public supply: flowing and nonflowing artesian, observation, recharge, dry, destroyed, and test holes
    • Springs, thermal springs, and extinct springs by use
    • Water gaging stations, measurement sites, quality-of-water sites, and weather stations
  • Groundwater and waste sites
    • Structure, bedrock, water-table, potentiometric, and water-quality contours
    • Lines of equal precipitation, depth, thickness, temperature, conductance, concentration, water-level change, runoff, and transmissivity
    • Watershed and ground-water divides, ground-water barriers, infiltration galleries, and ground-water flow directions
    • Hazardous waste sites, active, inactive, and cleaned up
    • The 171 line styles and 15 hatch patterns are also included as a line style set and a hatch pattern set for any other markup

Delivered as a Bluebeam Revu profile that loads all 5 tool sets, the line style set, and the hatch pattern set in one import, plus the individual tool set files, in standard colors and redline.

How to use

  • Import the profile (Revu > Profiles > Manage Profiles > Import, or double-click the .bpx file), or import single tool sets from the Tool Chest (Manage Tool Sets > Import).
  • Point symbols: click a tool, then click the sheet; type over a value or label to change it.
  • Line tools: click a tool, then click from point to point and double-click to finish. Drawn left to right, the hachures and ticks fall on the side the standard shows; draw the other way to flip them.
  • Area tools: click a tool, click around the area, and double-click to finish.
